Fanboys Cry. isPermaLink="false">http://ravenatic.co.uk/?p=469#comment-41

I'm not an Apple fanboy by any stretch of the imagination (my mobile is a blackberry - infact I gave my iPhone to my wife, and I use a PC as my main home computer - for example)
But I agree with the fanboys on this. I often use my iPad in bed to watch TV shows and browse the web and for me the rotation lock was one of the best 'innovations' in the iPad over the iPhone. It makes total sense given the way one uses this device that it be a hardware switch that can be enabled instantly, this is much less relevant one could argue for the smaller handsets.
Totally understand the need to make the iOS consistent but the big difference with the iPhone is that it is a phone and phones need a quick silent switch, the iPad is a multimedia consumption device - something that doesn't really require a quick mute button ! So in my opinion this could at least have been optional - I'm sure it wont take long for a jailbroken app to appear that allows the choice of what that switch does (a la activator)

I’m not an Apple fanboy by any stretch of the imagination (my mobile is a blackberry – infact I gave my iPhone to my wife, and I use a PC as my main home computer – for example)

But I agree with the fanboys on this.
